There is growing evidence that today’s youth spend more and more time indoors and have become increasingly disconnected from the natural world. Yet there is also significant evidence that outdoor experiences and opportunities to explore natural areas are beneficial for children. The Laura Hare Charitable Trust Environmental Learning Laboratories Program is keenly interested in building capacity for teachers and schools to capitalize on the benefits of outdoor learning labs. This program will award grants to teachers for the development of school ground natural areas and support for science and field equipment for use in the learning spaces. Additional consideration will be given to teachers with outdoor learning labs that need renovation or improvement.
